Hypnotherapy Battling Chronic Pain Disorders.

For years Angela Woods has tried everything to prevent or control her pain caused by *Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Treatments ranging from physiotherapy, massage therapy, chiropractic, prolotherapy, osteopath and pharmaceutical painkillers. However none of these have been successful for Angela, as the main problem she is struggling to cope with is her joint pain.

Angela had thought of trying hypnotherapy to help control her mindset when it came to the pain, but she was concerned that it wouldn't work as in the past she had used it to help quit smoking, however this was unsuccessful. Although she claims that "it was a different person and a different time; I can't imagine it doing any damage." Angela then consulted one of her physiotherapists on their opinion with hypnotherapy to help her; she said that he though it was a good idea.

Angela Wood (above) uses hypnotherapy to help manage
her painful condition.
Woods was attracted to one of her nearby Hypnotherapists, "they seemed to specialise in drug addicts, as that is a difficult crowd. If they can manage them, they can probably take a good whack at me." Although her comment seems a little violent towards herself, Angela's condition isn't getting any better and is causing her a significant amount of pain; she mentions that it wouldn't be so bad if she can manage and control her pain because then it wouldn't be so bad. However she isn't having any luck and recently she has also inherited the condition *Insomnia due to the amount of pain her body is dealing with.

It only took one session of hypnotherapy, along with night recordings for Angela to see improvement. She mentioned “Listening to the recordings at night worked a lot better than what I was doing before, which was reading before going to sleep. My sleeping improved rapidly. I was only waking up maybe once or at the most twice a night.”

Since her improvement in sleeping, Angela has gone back to her hypnotherapist for another session, this one to work on her body posture as it would help her pain also; this too has helped. Wood's is now in a better condition from what she started. She is also always telling doctors what she has done and showing how hypnotherapy has helped her condition all together.

*Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) is a group of inherited conditions that affect collagen proteins in the body. Typical features are stretchy skin, loose joints and fragile body tissues. This description was taken from the NHS website, if you'd like to know more about this condition follow the link here.
*Insomnia is difficulty getting to sleep or staying asleep for long enough to feel refreshed the next morning, even though you've had enough opportunity to sleep. This description was taken from the NHS website, if you'd like to know more about this condition follow the link here.

Hull's Malet Lambert School Visit

PUPILS and teachers at Malet Lambert School welcomed me with open arms as I visited their school grounds last week. I was asked to talk to the school's Year 11 pupils last year as they prepared to take their GCSE examinations, as my programme is designed to help students and their teachers prepare for exams by using relaxation and concentration methods.

Jane Disbrey, headteacher at Malet Lambert School, commented: "Sheila's relaxation and focusing methods have helped our students to better understand how to prepare for an exam by learning new techniques.

"The strategies she has developed is helping a range of students to overcome their anxiety, grow in confidence and feel comfortable about exam conditions."

I was delighted that the classes are working with the students and teachers at Malet Lambert, this isn't magic or trickery, but simple concentration techniques, which allow an individual to take control of their emotional state and remain focused and confident whilst being challenged.
